Far away from the hustle bustle of large cities, small groups of ethnic minorities are living peacefully in the mountainous area of Northern Vietnam. This 12 day tour takes you the most stunning landscapes of mountains and terraced paddy fields and helps you discover the most hidden villages and their inhabitants in colourful traditional costumes.

Day 2 (Sat) HANOI (-/-/-)
Arrive Hanoi. Transfer to Silk Path Luxury Hotel. Rest of day is at leisure.

Day 3 (Sun) HANOI – NGHIA LO (B/L/D)
Drive to Nghia Lo ( 200 km, 4.5 hours drive ) with stops en route for photographs. Check in your overnight stay before taking an excursion to Nghia Lo Market and the surrounding villages. Lunch and dinner are arranged at local restaurants.
Overnight at Nghia Lo or Mien Tay Hotel.

Day 4 (Mon) NGHIA LO - MU CANG CHAI – SAPA (B/L/-)
Hit the road again towards Tu Le, a Thai minority village. Admire the landscape from the top of Cao Pha Pass. Drive uphill to La Pan Tan Commune to see the most beautiful terraced rice fields of Northern Vietnam. Continue to Sapa via Than Uyen with several breaks at the minority ethnic villages for photos. Drive up to Hoang Lien Son Pass with stop at Tram Ton for photos before proceeding to Sapa ( total driving distance 200 km ). Lunch en route.

Day 5 (Tue) SAPA (B/L/-)
From Sapa, you will travel by car to Ta Giang Phinh village of the Black Hmong minority. Stop en route for snapshots at the Ta Giang Phinh Valley. Start your trek through rice fields to hamlets of Hmong people. After lunch proceed to Ban Khoang village and enjoy an easy walk to a Red Zao village (Trek level 1/5, duration: 2.5 hours).

Day 6 (Wed) SAPA – SIN CHENG Market - BAC HA (B/L/-)
Drive to the mountain town in the morning to visit Sin Cheng local market. Then Proceed to Bac Ha Town. Check-in at Sao Mai Hotel. After lunch take a walk (or go by car) to Pho and Thai Rang Pho to visit a Hmong village. Overnight in Bac Ha at Sao Mai Hotel.

Day 7 (Thu ) BAC HA - HA GIANG via Hoang Su Phi (B/L/D) visit asia - tours to asia
Drive to Ha Giang on a stunning mountain road bordered by terraced rice fields. Lunch en route. Relatively undiscovered, this “off-the-beaten-track” destination is unique for its well-preserved traditions and local culture. Today visit the Tay minority people at the Phuong Do Village which is dotted with stilt houses and surrounded by terraced paddy fields. You will have an opportunity to walk around the village to get a taste of very authentic rural daily life. Afterwards, observe the locals completing their daily work and making their way home. Return to Ha Giang in the late afternoon.
Dinner & overnight at Royal 3* Hotel in town.

Day 8 (Fri) HA GIANG – QUAN BA (55km) (B/L/D)
Morning take a scenic drive to Quan Ba, a small town in the province with stops en route for photographs at Heaven’s Gate and the Fairy Mountain. Start your soft trek down to Nam Dam Village (~ 5km, 2hours, level 2.5/5). Check in and have lunch with a Zao family. Relax and set off for your afternoon walk around Nam Dam Village, home to the Long Dress Zao ethnic minority, for a great chance to learn about their way of life, culture and environment.
Dinner hosted by a Zao family. Overnight at Dao Lodge Nam Dam.

Day 9 (Sat) HA GIANG – DONG VAN (160km) (B/L/D) visit asia - tours to asia
Drive on the undulating terrain, between 700m and 1,300m in altitude, through extraordinary mountainous landscapes and terraced paddy fields. Stop at Quyet Tien Market where the minority groups of Nung, White Hmong, Po Y, Dao Lanten and Tay gather to trade their produce. Proceed to the Heaven’s Gate and the Fairy Mountain before visiting a White Hmong village which specializes in flax weaving. This is a wonderful opportunity to stretch your legs and explore the village. There will be another visit to a village of the Zao Lanten before lunch break. After lunch, proceed to Sung La to discover a LoLo house and its people (the LoLo minority is one of Vietnam's least-common ethnic people and are only found within this region). Afterwards, visit the impressive ancient Hmong King Palace before reaching Dong Van Town. Arrive in the late afternoon and check into your hotel. Dinner & overnight in Dong Van at Hoa Cuong 3* Hotel.

Day 10 (Sun) DONG VAN – MEO VAC – BA BE (B/L/D) visit asia - tours to asia
In the morning, visit the Sunday Dong Van minority market (one of the most beautiful minority markets in Vietnam). Before reaching the peak of Ma Pi Leng, you will be able to admire the panoramic views of a rocky mountain, a river and paddy field terraces. Visit Meo Vac Market where cattle are traded then proceed to Bao Lac for lunch. Drive on southward to Ba Be Lake. Dinner & Overnight at Ba Be Lake View Homestay.

Day 11 (Mon) BA BE – HANOI (275 km) (B/L/-)
Rise early to enjoy a day of sightseeing including a boat cruise along the scenic Nang River to visit the Puong grotto and the Dau Dang Waterfall as well as some ethnic villages dotted along the waterfront. Lunch will be provided near the Dau Dang Waterfall.
Return to Hanoi. Overnight at Silk Path Luxury Hotel.

Day 12 (Tue) DEPARTURE (B/-/-)
Transfer to airport for flight home.
Extension to Laos Northern Escape available upon request.
