DAY 01 : DEPARTURE (-/-/-) Fly to Colombo

Arrival at Negombo airport, meeting with our representative and depart by road to Habarana. Rest of the day is to relax and acclimatise. Overnight at The Cinnamon Lodge.

visit asia - tours to asia Morning climb up the Rock Fortress of Sigiriya, a Royal Citadel for 20 years in the 5th Century AD built by King Kasyapa, contemporary with the paintings of Ajantha and Ellora Caves in India , highlights being the Frescoes , Mirror Wall and the Lion's Paw, considered as the 8th Wonder of the modern world , thought to be equivalent to the "Alakamanda" - Celestial Palace of God Kuvera. Sigiriya was the Royal Citadel for 20 years in the 5th Century AD - stark and forbidding, haunted by an epic story of murder and betrayal is attributed to King Kasyapa who found hiding here after killing his father more fruitful than meeting the wrath of the people who loved King Dhatusena much more before meeting his rival - Prince Mugalan who had fled to India seeking reinforcements of his Army. This unique Rock Fortress or "castle in the sky" - a massive monolith of red stone that rises 600ft above ground , derived the name "Lion Rock" as the entrance to the climbing trail to the summit is reached between the paws of a lion. Afternoon visit to Dambulla Golden Cave Temples with their beautiful collection of sculptures, paintings and frescoes from various periods of the island’s history. The Temple Of The Great Kings is the biggest and most spectacular cave temple with over 150 gilded statues of Buddha and 1500 paintings! The ceilings and walls are covered by the finest murals to be seen in Sri Lanka. Overnight stay at the Cinnamon Lodge.

After breakfast drive to Polonnaruwa, the island’s Medieval Capital (11th – 13th Centuries AD) which rose to fame after the decline of Anuradhapura. The city was fortified with three concentric walls, beautified with parks and gardens and sanctified by many shrines. A unique Irrigation complex watered the city as well as the surrounding plains helping in agriculture which made the island "the Granary of the East" . The largest of the man made reservoirs, the huge Parakrama Samudra (the Sea of Parakrama), is larger in size than the Colombo Harbour. Polonnaruwa is home to two magnificent World Heritage Sites and numerous other sites of archaeological and historical interest , some of which depict the influence that Hinduism had on the Buddhist Civilization during that period of history : The Grate Statue, Quandrangle, Royal Palace, Vatadage, Hatadage, Siva Devalaya, Gal Viharaya, Alahana Pirivena Complex, Thuparamaya, Thiwanka Image House, The Museum, etc… Mid afternoon visit to Minneriya wild life park by jeep. The park is situated around the reservoir of the same name. This park comprises of grasslands, thorny scrubs and many valuable species of trees. Large herds of elephants, species of deer, wild boar, water buffalo and jackals are some of the wild animals found, along with a variety of avifauna that abounds the park. Overnight in Habarana at Cinnamon Lodge.

DAY 05 : KANDY (B/-/-)
visit asia - tours to asia After breakfast overland transfer to Kandy. Kandy, literally the "City on the Hills" so named as it was protected by Nature - water , rocks and jungles. It was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kingdom before falling to the British hands in 1815AD. The name Kandy conjures vision of splendour of magnificence. Many of the legends, traditions and folklore are still lovingly kept alive. Check into your hotel, the Cinnamon Citadel. Later in the afternoon visit to the Peradenya Royal Botanical Gardens - one of the best of its kind in Asia with more than 5000 species of different varieties of flora which incidentally was the Headquarters of Lord Louise Mountbatten - the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces during the 2nd World War. Time permitting visit a Gem Museum to see how the valuable gems that you see on a shop shelf are turned out from a raw stone with the back ground history. In the evening drive uphill for a panoramic view of Kandy before watching a Cultural Performance by traditional Kandyan Dancers and Drummers including devotional “Fire Walking". Overnight in Kandy at the Cinnamon Citadel.

DAY 06 : KANDY (B/-/-)
Leisurely breakfast at hotel. Morning visit the centre of the attraction : the golden roofed Temple of the Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha . Later enjoy a leisurely stroll around Kandy Lake built by the last King Sri Wickramarajasinghe in 1806 for a prominent view of Kandy, the City of Arts and Crafts as well culture and history, now a World Heritage Site. Afternoon is free to enjoy Kandy your own way. Overnight at Cinnamon Citadel.

DAY 07 : KANDY – HATTON (B/-/D) visit asia - tours to asia Overland transfer to Dickoya. Visits to Hatton tea plantation and a Tea factory where local people pluck tea. You are invited to join the tea workers at work. Continue by car to Nuwara Eliya. Nuwara Eliya is often referred as the "Little England" surrounded by "Green Carpets"- hills covered with Tea and cascading Water Falls amidst breathtakingly beautiful landscapes. Nestled in a wooded basin at the foot of Mount Pidurutalagala Sri Lanka’s highest peak, this region at 6,183ft above sea level has a cool, crisp climate unknown elsewhere in Sri Lanka. A serene retreat from the hustle and bustle of Colombo, the town seems like a piece of the English Lake District. Unusual plants, birds and animals thrive here besides natural feature like waterfalls and caves. Tea, the glistening green leaves of this lovely shrub, along with neat rows of green, cloak ridges and valleys providing a lasting impression of Sri Lanka’s Hill Country. The Golf Course – one of the finest and picturesque in Asia – the serene Anglican Church of the Holy Trinity, beautiful parks and well kept lawns and hedges give the place an air of nostalgia. Overnight stay at the Langdale by Amaya in Nuwara Eliya.

Leisurely breakfast at hotel. Morning enjoy a nature walk on the tea trails around your hotel. Later drive downhill for some sightseeing in Nuwara Eliya including the Victoria Park, Gregory Lake, Golf Course and local market, etc... Overnight stay at the Langdale by Amaya (Luxury Room) in Nuwara Eliya.

Off the train, rejoin your car & driver to continue your car journey down south to Tangalle. Arrive in Tangalle and check-in at the 5* Anantara Peave Haven for a 2 night stay ( Premier Ocean view room on halfboard basis ).

Day at leisure to enjoy Tangalle beach in the South Coast of Srilanka.

The city has a unique charm among the many historic places in Sri Lanka. Visit to the Dutch Fortress ( a World Heritage site ), The Dutch Reformed Church and the National Maritime Museum. Continue by road along the south west coast to Bentota. En route visit a Mask Museum, Moonstone Mines at Meetiyagoda and a Turtle Hatchery. Dinner and overnight stay at the Club Villa, Bentota in the West coast of Srilanka.

Days at leisure for beach relaxation.

In due time car transfer to the Airport in Negombo for flight home.
