Fly to Ulaanbaatar via Moscow, Seoul or Beijing on scheduled airlines.

On arrival in Ulaanbaatar, meeting with guide and transfer to 4* Kempinski hotel Khan Palace. Rest of the day at leisure. Optional full or half day city tour can be arranged with your guide to include Gandan Monastery, Buddha Park & Zaisan war memorial, The Summer & Winter Palace of Bogd Khan, Sukhbaatar square, National & Natural History Museums as well as a lunch/dinner with folk show.

After breakfast, drive to Terelj national park, 80km north-east of city. Spend the day touring the area and enjoying the magnificent alpine scenery. There are great opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, horse riding and visiting a nomad family and learn about their unique lifestyle. Overland return to Kempinski hotel Khan Palace for overnight.

visit asia - tours to asia DAY 04 ULAANBAATAR / MIDDLE GOBI (B/L/D) – 175 miles
After an early breakfast, group leaves Ulaanbaatar for the Gobi desert with lunch at a camp en route. On the way visit Baga Gazriin Chuluu salt Lake and the ruins of Sum Khukh Burd Temple. Learn about the ancient indigenous religion of Mongolia, Shamanism, which is still practiced today. Arrive at Middle Gobi camp in evening for dinner and overnight in traditional gers. Keep the ger roof open to gaze at the stars and experience the tranquillity of the desert as you nod off.

DAY 05 TSAGAAN SUVARGA (B/L/D) – 160 miles
After breakfast, drive deeper into the Gobi desert. Picnic lunch and an opportunity to exercise it off by walking a few miles of desert. Afterwards head to the 30-metre-high Tsagaan Suvarga (White Stupa), a strangely shaped white limestone rock formation, the highest and most respected point in the area. Stand on this outcrop to marvel at the multitudes of colours sprawling out before you, and take in the magical silence of the Gobi desert. Dinner and overnight at the ger camp.

visit asia - tours to asia DAY 06 SOUTH GOBI / YOLLIN AM (B/L/D) – 100 miles
Breakfast at the camp before heading towards the foothills of the mountains in Saikhan National Park. Lunch at a local camp before heading into Yollin Am (Eagle Valley) for hiking to see the unforgettable ice gorge. Visit the Park Museum to learn about the flora and fauna in the area. The valley is refreshingly cool with lush greenery, a gem in the middle of the starkly contrasting arid Gobi desert. The gorge is walled on both sides by towering cliffs resulting in an ice path even in mid-summer. Spend the afternoon hiking or relaxing. Short distance to the camp for dinner and overnight.

DAY 07 KHONGOR SAND DUNES (B/L/D) – 105 miles
After breakfast drive to Khongor Els, Mongolia’s largest sand dunes. Arrive at the camp for lunch and relaxation. Enjoy the view of immense dunes stretching 110miles alongside the mountain ranges. The adventurous can climb the dunes and listen to the whistling wind, hence dubbed “Singing Dunes”. The highest peak is 250feet and affords the best panoramic views. Dinner & overnight at ger camp.

visit asia - tours to asia DAY 08 SOUTH GOBI / BAYANZAG (B/L/D) - 105 miles
Early breakfast at the camp before driving towards Kharakorum, ancient capital of Mongolia. On the way explore the world famous Flaming Cliffs (Bayan Zag), the Gobi Dinosaurs Cemetery and the trail of palaeontologist Roy Chapman Andrews. Visit a local camel breeding family to see their way of life and have a camel ride. Dinner and overnight in the ger camp near Flaming cliffs.

DAY 09 SOUTH GOBI / ONGYN KHIID (B/L/D) – 105 miles
After breakfast, drive northbound with lunch en route. Stop for the night in a ger camp near Ongyn Khiid. Short walk to visit some Buddhist ruins and a local small temple museum. You maybe able to catch a glimpse of junior monks going about daily life. Dinner and fashion show, overnight in the ger camp.

visit asia - tours to asia DAY 10 KARAKORUM (B/L/D) – 155 miles
After breakfast, continue the drive to Kharakorum, once the ancient capital of the great Mongol Empire. Arrive at Karakorum in the afternoon and take part in an Archery competition. Dinner and overnight at our ger camp. Optional folk concert featuring throat singing, contortionist and a chance to try some of the traditional instruments including the much loved horse fiddle.

DAY 11 ERDENE-ZUU (B/L/D) – 105 miles
Early breakfast at the camp. Visit Erdene-Zuu, the second largest monastery in Mongolia. It was almost completely destroyed in the 1930s and was rebuilt thanks to donations from local people. Tour of the monastery grounds, several chapels with excellent examples of Buddhist iconography dating from the 16th century and the impressive wall of 108 stupas. Visit the symbolic ruins of Kharakorum, the 13th century capital of the Mongol Empire before driving to Tsenkher hot springs. Optionally, you can visit the area where the spring emerges at +55C, short hike through the forest and visit a local nomad family and try their yak butter. Alternatively, just relax and enjoy the natural hot spa (indoor and outdoor pools) and a massage. Dinner and overnight at the ger camp.

visit asia - tours to asia DAY 12 OGY NUUR LAKE (B/L/D) – 105 miles
Drive to Lake Ugiy in Arkhangai province, a beautiful freshwater lake. After lunch, partake in activities offered by the camp including bird watching by the lake shores, hiking, row or diesel boat, fly fishing, horseriding or just relax on the veranda an enjoy the view. Overnight at ger camp on the lake shore.

After breakfast drive to Hustai Nuruu Natural Reserve. Arrive by lunchtime for a buffet. Opportunity for horse/camel riding, mountain biking, hiking or souvenir shopping. In the cooler late afternoon, drive deep into the Natural reserve to search for Takhi wild horses as they come down from the mountains towards the river. Back to Hustai Nuruu camp, dinner and overnight at ger camp.

visit asia - tours to asia DAY 14 HUSTAI NURUU NATURAL RESEVE / ULAANBAATAR (B/L/D) – 75 miles
Breakfast at the camp before a short drive back to Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to Kempinski Hotel Khan Palace for overnight. Rest of day at leisure or souvenir shopping.

All day free at leisure to explore Ulaanbaatar at your own pace. Overnight at Kempinski hotel. For Guests attending Naadam festival : early transfer to the Sport Stadium to explore and get up close to the archers in their traditional Deels practising. Then a chance to see the ankle bone flicking tournament before heading back to the main stadium for the spectacular opening ceremony. Stay after the ceremony to catch the wrestling before driving to the outskirts of the city to see the horseracers just coming into the finish line (can be optional as there will be lots of traffic). Drive back to the city for a spectular folk show including dancing, throat singing and contortionism.
