DAY 01 Departure on scheduled flights
DAY 02 HANOI (-/-/D)
On arrival at Hanoi airport you will be met and transferred to Serenade hotel in the Old Quarter. Afternoon orientation tour of the main boulevards of Hanoi, Hoan Kiem Lake, The Temple of Literature, One pillar pagoda and the Old Quarter. Evening welcome dinner at a typical Vietnamese restaurant and enjoy the incredible water puppet performance. Overnight at Serenade Hotel.
DAY 03 CUC PHUONG (B/L/-)
Morning transfer to CucPhuong (140km from Hanoi). CucPhuong is Vietnam’s first National Park covering a huge limestone area of 22000 hectares with a rich diversity of flora and fauna, making it a beautiful evergreen rainforest. Upon arrival, visit the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre and the Botanic Garden, where visitors can see some of the 1,880 species of flora that exist in the park. Overnight at the Park Guest House.
DAY 04 CUC PHUONG / HAI PHONG (B/L/-)
Early morning drive to Bong Station for a bird-watching trek through the forest. The 6km trail passes through giant trees, some of which are over 1,000 years old. Picnic lunch before an afternoon drive North East to HaiPhong. Overnight at The Tray Hotel.
DAY 05 CAT BA (B/L/-)
In the morning, board a speed boat to CatBa island. Only 80km from HaiPhong, CatBa National Park (9800 ha) is a rich ecosystem full of evergreen forests on the hills, coastal mangrove swamps and off shore coral reefs. After lunch, start a guided trek to explore CatBa National Park, Hospital & Trung Trang caves. Overnight at Sunrise Resort Hotel.
DAY 06 HALONG / HANOI / DONG HOI (B/L/-)
Board a boat to Halong bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a leisurely 5 hour boat trip through the bay stopping to explore some of the many islands, caves and grottoes. Transfer to Hanoi following a lunch on board of freshly caught seafood. On arrival board an overnight train to Dong Hoi.
DAY 07 DONG HOI / CHAY LAP (-/L/D)
Morning arrival in Dong Hoi and transfer to Chay Lap village. Enroute, stops for Hien Luong Bridge, Ben Hai River, the 17th Parallel which divided Vietnam during the war and Vinh Moc Tunnels. Arrive in Chay Lap village, check-in to your homestay. Rest of the day at leisure for a walk in the village. Dinner and overnight with the hosting family.
DAY 08 CHAY LAP / PHONG NHA KE BANG / CHAY LAP (B/L/D)
Morning cycle to Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park. Listen to the sounds of wildlife bouncing off the stunning limestone cliffs as the newly paved single lane road snakes through one of Vietnam’s most important conservation areas and most important historic trail during the war. Pedal around the National Park to enjoy the fresh air and the biodiversity eco-system of Phong Nha Ke Bang Park. Later arrive at the pier and board a wooden boat for a peaceful cruise on Son River back to Chay Lap village. Rest of the day at leisure; or an optional boat trip to Phong Nha cave – the Natural World Heritage site; or simply discover rural life in Chay Lap by joining the locals at work in rice fields. Dinner and overnight in Chay Lap homestay. (Today, biking distance is approximately 45km, with some steep slopes in the Park )
DAY 09 PHONG NHA KE BANG / HUE (B/L/-)
After breakfast, enjoy kayaking on Chay River to Dark Cave where endangered langurs may be viewed from across the river. Arrive at Nuoc Mooc Springs and trek through the Park, learn the codes of conservation from park rangers. Optional swimming in Nuoc Mooc Springs (today trekking distance is about 3km). Afternoon overland transfer to Hue ( 3 hours drive ). Overnight at Huong Giang Hotel.
DAY 10 HUE (B/L/-)
Morning dragon boat ride on the romantic Perfume River to Thien Mu Pagoda and the Imperial Citadel. Then drive to HoiAn ancient town via the breathtaking HaiVan pass, one of the most scenic hillside roads in Vietnam. Lunch en route at a local restaurant. Overnight at HoiAn Ancient House Hotel.
DAY 11 HOIAN (B/L/-)
In the morning, enjoy a walking tour of the old streets of HoiAn; learn how the mix of Japanese and Chinese architecture reflects its past history as an important trading port. Lunch at local restaurant. Afternoon drive to Tra Que village, located just outside Hoi An and surrounded by immense fields of vegetables and herbs. Tra Que village is dedicated to the growing of green vegetables and supplies Hoi An and its neighbouring towns with most of the fresh produce which goes into making distinctive central Vietnamese dishes. Discover the traditional techniques used in the gardening of herbs and vegetables. Guests can also roll up their sleeves and join the farmers in the fields before sampling local delicacies such as 'Tam Huu' spring rolls. Relax with a foot soak in the herb remedy solution before the drive back to Hoi An. Evening leisurely walk in the small streets of HoiAn illuminated by thousands of multicoloured traditional lanterns. Overnight at HoiAn Ancient House Hotel.
DAY 12 HOIAN / DANANG / DALAT (B/L/-)
Day at leisure in HoiAn to enjoy this charming ancient town. Late afternoon car transfer to Danang airport for flight to Dalat Hill Station. On arrival you will be met and transferred to Saigon Dalat Hotel for overnight.
DAY 13 CAT TIEN (B/L/-)
Morning drive to Cat Tien National Park via Dalat highland and Belle Vue pass. CatTien covers a huge area of 37000 hectares, full of rare species such as the Asian Elephant and the one horned Rhinoceros. Take a hike in the Ben Cu area to see the legendary “Pham Van Dong” tree. Overnight stay at Cat Tien Guest House. (Optional night jeep ride into the Nui Tuong forest to look for nocturnal animals.)
DAY 14 SAIGON (B/L/-)
Early morning jeep drive to Bau Chim and Bau Sau areas, staging points for a two and a half hours trek deep into the forest. In Bau Sau, canoe around a lake, then trek back to the jeep for the drive back to the guesthouse. Afternoon transfer to Saigon with visit to tea and coffee plantations on the way. Lunch en route. Evening at leisure and overnight in Saigon at Continental Hotel in city centre.
DAY 15 SAIGON (B/L/-)
Embark on a guided city tour of Saigon’s main boulevards, Notre Dame Cathedral, the splendid Post Office, the bustling Ben Thanh market and ChoLon China town. Rest of the day is at leisure and overnight at Continental hotel.
DAY 16 CAO LANH (B/L/-)
Early morning drive to Long Hiep Bridge in Dong Thap province. Enjoy a sampan ride to Xeo Quit melaleuca forest, for a trek in this romantic mangrove forest. Lunch at a restaurant built on stilts. Afternoon drive to Cao Lanh where you will board a boat to Gao Giong agricultural farm. Rowing boat to Gao Giong reserve, home to thousands of wild storks. Return to CaoLanh for overnight at Song Tra hotel.
DAY 17 SAIGON (B/L/-)
Morning short visit to Cao Lanh local market, farmer’s villages, fish and prawn breeding farms before returning to Saigon. Lunch en route. Overnight in Saigon at Continental hotel.
DAY 18 DEPARTURE (B/-/-)
Transfer to Saigon airport for flight home.
