Please note: Japanese style accommodation will generally be in tatami-mat rooms with low tables and futons. Ryokan have en-suite facilities in the rooms but family run minshuku do not. Occasionally, there will be a need to walk to and from train/bus stations. Clients must be able to carry their own luggage on and off trains and through stations. So a good tip would be to travel light. Most of the hotels are a few minutes walk from the train station. In small towns like Hakone & Takayama, there is a free shuttle bus provided by the hotels for trips to town centre and train stations.

DAY 01 Departure from the UK.

DAY 02 NARITA /TOKYO (-/-/-)
Arrive at Narita International Airport. After immigration formalities and customs clearance, meet our representative. Board Narita Express to Shiba Park hotel in central Tokyo. The hotel is located within walking distance to the Tokyo Tower, beautifully illuminated at night. Rest of the day is at leisure to take a glimpse of Tokyo. Overnight at Shiba Park hotel.

DAY 03 TOKYO (B/L/-)
After breakfast at hotel, full day Tokyo sightseeing with English-speaking guide and using public transport. Visit Asakusa area with Sensoji temple and Nakamise arcade, Akihabara Electric Town known worldwide as ‘Akiba’, Imperial Palace and Meiji Jingu shrine. Transfer back to your hotel by coach. Overnight at Shiba Park Hotel.

Morning take the Metro to Tokyo station with tour guide. Board Shinkensen bullet train to Odawar. On arrival, coach transfer to Hakone followed by a Pirate boat cruise on Lake Ashi. On clear days the inverted reflection of Mount Fuji can be seen over the water. Enjoy an exciting 30 minutes cable car ride on Hakone Ropeway stopping at Owakudani for a close view of beautiful Mount Fuji. Dinner & overnight at Resorpia Atami Ryokan (Japanese style hotel).

Leave for Atami station by hotel shuttle bus. Board a local train to Takayama. On arrival in Takayama, walking tour with English-speaking guide includes Yatai-Kaikan Hall, the festival floats exhibition displaying huge intricately decorated floats which parade the streets of Takayama in the autumn; Kusakabe Folkcraft Museum with its structures made of wood, mud & soil reflecting Edo architecture, a real Japanese Culture Asset. Dinner at local restaurant. Overnight at Associa Takayama resort.

Full day Takayama guided sightseeing by coach takes in Takayama Morning market which originates from mulberry tree market in early Edo era. Here you can see local fresh fruit and veg, mountain produce and Takayama four seasons delicacies. Next, transfer to Shirakawago for the visit to Former Toyama Family Residence. Continue by road to Kanazawa. Check in at hotel Kanazawa Ekimae for overnight.

Half day Kanazawa sightseeing by coach to see Kenrokuen garden, one of the 3 most beautiful gardens in Japan. Created by Lord Maeda it is a landscape garden spreading over 100,000 m2 embracing hills, streams, falls & ponds. Next visit Kutaniyaki Pottery followed by Higashi-chaya Street by Asanogawa Bridge. This street lined with Japanese traditional wooden houses decorated by Indian red latticed windows, was one of the best night entertainment spots in Kanazawa. Afternoon transfer to Kanazawa station to board the train to Kyoto. On arrival check in at hotel Kyoto Ekimae for overnight.

DAY 08 KYOTO (B/L/-)
Full day guided sightseeing tour of Heian Shrine, a famous structure dedicated to Emperor Kammu, founder of Kyoto and Komei the last Emperor of Kyoto. Behind the shrine there is a beautiful garden full of water lilies, roses, maples and weeping cherry trees. Next visit Sanju-Sangendo Temple, a National treasure with 1,030 standing Buddha statues in its main hall. Last visit is to Kiyomizu Temple built in 1633 on top of a cliff. Enjoy a panoramic view of Kyoto City from the temple’s large wooden balcony. Return to hotel at about 05:00 pm. Overnight at Hotel Kyoto Ekimae.

DAY 09 KYOTO (B/-/-)
Day at leisure in Kyoto (Optional Kyoto Morning & Craft tour available, which includes Nijo-jo, Golden Pavilion, Kyoto Imperial Palace and Kyoto Handicraft Centre). Overnight at Hotel Kyoto Ekimae.

Leave Hotel for Kyoto station with guide. Board the train to Nara. On arrival Nara guided tour of Todaiji Temple protected by an imposing gate and sheltering one of the world’s largest bronze Buddha statues. Next we move to the serene & holy Kasuga Shrine built in the middle of the forest and illuminated by thousands of lanterns. Overnight at Hotel SunRoute Nara.

Leave hotel for Nara station with guide. Board the train to Himeji. On arrival Himeji guided excursion to Himeji Castle or White Heron Castle, a Unesco World’s Heritage built in the early 1600s. A stroll in the beautiful Korakoen garden full of cherry blossoms will end today visits. Overnight at Hotel Himeji Washington Plaza.

Leave Hotel for Himeji station with guide to board train to ShinOsaka. On arrival Osaka guided sightseeing of Tempozan market place with its street performances and ‘manzai’ comedy. Overnight at New Osaka Hotel.

Leave hotel for ShinOsaka station with escort. Board a Shinkensen bullet train to Tokyo station. Rest of the day is at leisure. Dinner at local restaurant. Overnight at Shiba Park hotel.

DAY 14 TOKYO (B/-/-)
Day at leisure or optional day trip to Nikko or explore Kamakura by foot & rickshaw ride. Overnight at Shiba Park Hotel.

Check out and leave hotel with English Speaking Escort. Board your train to Narita airport. Fly home.
