DAY 01 Departure from London Heathrow. Fly to Jakarta with Malaysia airlines.
DAY 02 YOGYAKARTA (-/-/D)
On arrival at Soekarno airport in Jakarta terminal 2, go through immigration and collect your luggage then re-check-in (same terminal) for your internal flight to Yogyakarta with Garuda Indonesia. On arrival our local guide will transfer you to Rumah Pelagan hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Welcome dinner and overnight at hotel.
DAY 03 YOGYAKARTA (B/L/D)
After breakfast, discover Candi Borobudur, the largest Bhuddist temple in the world built in the 9th century. This nine floor pyramidal temple overlooks Java’s stunning countryside and is surrounded by a stunning landscape of mountains & valleys. Next visit Pawon & Mendut temples and the immense Candi Prambanan Hindu temple complex followed by Plaosan & Kalasan temples. Lunch during visits. Dinner & overnight at hotel.
DAY 04 YOGYAKARTA / SURABAYA (B/L/D)
After an early breakfast, embark on a scenic train journey
(4 hours) to Surabaya in eastern Java crossing tranquil countryside towards Mount Bromo, one of the most beautiful volcanoes in Indonesia. On arrival around noon transfer to Jawa Banana Hotel
perched on the volcanic slopes of Mount Bromo. Lunch at local restaurant. Dinner & overnight at Jawa Banana.
DAY 05 MOUNT BROMO / KAWA IJEN (B/L/D)
Very early departure ( 04:00 am ) by 4x4 up to the viewpoint on Mount Penanjakan for one of the most spectacular sunrise views over Mount Bromo. (Please wrap up as the temperature is much lower at this time of the day and it can be windy). Watching the sunrise from the crest of mount Bromo in a sky full of stars is a mystical experience. Ride your 4x4 across a sand sea down to the foot of Mount Bromo. Return to hotel for breakfast. Later transfer along Java East coast passing by coffee plantations to the Ijen reserve (approx 6 hours drive). Dinner and overnight at Ijen resort.
DAY 06 KAWA IJEN / DENPASAR (B/L/D)
Another early rise for a walk in the forest to the incredibly large crater and climb up a mountain trail to the rim of smoking Mount Ijen to discover a beautiful sulphuric turquoise lake. The sulphur porters often come up each time with bags of sulphur weighing up to 90 kg each. Descend Kawa Ijen and transfer to Bali by ferry and car. Lunch en route. Dinner & overnight at Waka Maya resort in Sanur, Bali.
DAY 07 DENPASAR / UJUNG PANDANG (B/L/D)
Early morning transfer to Denpasar airport for flight to Ujung Pandang in Sulawesi followed by an overland transfer to Rantepao in Tana Toraja, passing through the Buginese villages with their typical wooden houses. Lunch en route before arrival in Toraja in the afternoon. Toraja is renowned for the unique and elaborate funeral ceremonies held in the past by the locals. Dinner and overnight at Toraja Heritage Hotel.
DAY 08 RANTEPAO / LEMO / SUAYA / SANGGALA / KETEKESU (B/L/D)
Visits to the major sites of Toraja: the Tongkonan old houses in the shape of upside down boats; Lemo village (11 kms from Rantepao) located in the middle of paddy fields from where a limestone cliff emerged high and straight mysteriously carrying the ‘deads in balcony’; Suaya village with its Royal cemetery and Sanggala graveyard where babies are buried in tree trunks so that, according to local belief, they can keep growing. Lunch during visits. Afternoon exploration of Londa, which is a natural grave then drive to Ketekesu village (2,5 km West of Londa), known for the beautiful architecture of its Tongkonan houses and its remarkable effigies and tombs dated back in the 15th century. Dinner & overnight at Toraja Heritage hotel.
DAY 09 BATUTUMONGA (B/L/D)
Depart by road to the oldest village in Toraja, Palawa with its old houses and barns neatly lined up in the village. From here start a soft trek towards Batutumonga. Along the trekking trail enjoy wondrous views of mountains enriched by rice fields and evergreen bamboo forests. Experience moments with local people to understand the unique Torajan lifestyle. Picnic lunch. Check into a charming Guest House with a lovely view over Rantepao town. Rest of the day is reserved for a walk to the impressive Lokomata funeral site with graves deeply dug inside huge rocks. Dinner & overnight at Mentirotiku Guest House (basic accommodation )
DAY 10 RANTEPAO (B/L/D)
After breakfast enjoy a stroll in Sa’Dan weaving village and Bori town with its extraordinary funeral site of megalithic menhirs, sometimes a few metres high. Lunch at a local restaurant. Afternoon explore the hanging graves in Marante traditional village. Cross the river on a suspension bridge to small villages set in paddy fields. Back to Rantepao for dinner & overnight at Toraja Heritage hotel.
DAY 11 RANTEPAO / MAKASSAR / DENPASAR (B/L/D)
Leave Rantepao by road for Makassar and transfer to Hasanuddin airport for an afternoon flight to Denpasar. On arrival, car transfer to Ubud. Dinner & overnight at Alila Ubud resort.
DAY 12 BALI (B/L/D)
After breakfast, a tour of Bali includes the sacred fountains of Tampaksiring, the water is believed to have curative powers or even to be an immortality potion. Legend states that god Indra shot an arrow into the ground causing holy waters to gush out to cure his fellow deities who were dying from poisoning. Drive to Kintamani tribal village by Batur lake and to Bali Besakih Grand temple on the slopes of Mount Agung. Dinner & overnight at Alila Ubud Resort.
DAY 13 BALI (B/L/D)
A day to discover archaeological sites : Goa Gajah, the Elephant grotto, the Royal tombs of Gunung Kawi secretly placed in a gorge where a stream runs through it. The mountain has actually been cut and the tombs dedicated to members of the royal family were carved out of its stone walls. Afternoon visits to Pejeng and Yeh Puluh temples via a very pretty road bordered by immense terraced paddy fields. Dinner & overnight at Alila Ubud Resort.
DAY 14 UBUD / KUTA (B/L/D)
Go further north of Bali to visit to the most scenic lake in Bali, Berantan volcanic lake surrounding by mountains; Ulun Danu Temple dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of Water. Next visit Mengwi water-lilly temple and Tanah Lot temple of the Sea in a small rocky islet. Lunch during visits. Afternoon drive back to Sanur passing by stunning terraced rice fields in Bali. Dinner & overnight at Waka Maya Hotel.
DAY 15 BALI (B/-/D)
Day at leisure to enjoy Sanur beach. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
DAY 16 DEPARTURE (B/-/-)
Afternoon transfer to Denpasar airport for flight home with Malaysia airlines via Kuala Lumpur.
