DAY 01 Depart from Heathrow. Scheduled flights to Beijing, Capital of the People’s Republic of China.

DAY 02 BEIJING (-/-/-)
Upon your arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to 4* Beijing Holiday Inn Downtown Hotel or similar. Rest of day is at leisure.

DAY 03 BEIJING (B/L/D)
Day excursion to Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and experience the splendour of the Summer Palace, built as a royal garden for Qing Dynasty Emperors. On to visit the picturesque Temple of Heaven, built in 1420, where emperors of Ming and Qing would pray for good harvests and perform rituals essential to the well being of the country. You will also have the opportunity to see the Olympic Venues including the Bird Nest and Water Cube. Enjoy a delicious Peking Duck dinner and attend the fabulous Peking Opera performance in the evening.

DAY 04 BEIJING (B/L/D)
A full-day tour will take in the grandeur of The Eighth Wonder of the World, the Great Wall, built more than 2000 years ago to protect China from northern invaders. On the way back to Beijing stop and visit the sacred Ming Tombs, where 13 emperors of Ming Dynasty were buried.

DAY 05 BEIJING (B/L/D)
Excursion to the Summer Palace, a holiday retreat of many Emperors, and leisurely stroll along the romantic Kunming lake and a visit to the Silk market. Attend the fabulous Peking Opera performance in the evening.

DAY 06 BEIJING/ URUMQI (B/L/D)
Fly to Urumqi, the administrative Capital of Xingjiang Uyghur minority autonomous region. Soon after arriving in the afternoon, embark on a fascinating tour of the famous Xinjiang Autonomous Region museum. Check-in at hotel.

DAY 07 URUMQI/ KASHGAR (B/L/D)
Today's highlight in Urumqi is an excursion to Heavenly lake. Only an hour's drive from the city, it lies on snow-capped mount Bogda at almost 2000 meters above sea level. The sapphire blue lake is set in steep slopes of pine forests and meadows of wild flowers where Kazak nomads camp. The view from the cruise boat is breathtaking. In the evening, you will board a short flight to Kashgar and transfer to the best hotel locally.

DAY 08 KASHGAR (B/L/D)
No visitor to Kashgar should miss the Sunday Bazaar. In this teeming market, you can buy anything from herbal medicines to carpets, from a cradle to a camel. In the afternoon, you will visit the town centre. A tour takes us from the vast Id Kah mosque to the tomb of Abakh Khoja in the country lanes.

DAY 09 KASHGAR/ URUMQI (B/L/D)
Kashgar is a fabled city with a rich mix of peoples and cultures. Mosques and veiled ladies make the city full of Middle Eastern flavour. Morning visit to a school before attending a workshop to learn how traditional Uyghur carpets are made. A tour of the old town in a donkey cart taxi takes you along a warren of twisting alleys and whitewashed walls. In the evening, fly back to Urumqi and transfer to your hotel.

DAY 10 URUMQI/ TURPAN (B/L/D)
This morning is spent in the Nanshan Pastures where nomadic tribesmen herd their yaks and sheep. You will have the opportunity to visit a family in their tent for a taste of traditional nomadic hospitality. A short coach journey takes you through the desert to the Oasis town of Turpan, famous for its melons and vineyards. Here Marco Polo first encountered spaghetti, an idea he took home to Italy. You will stay at the best hotel locally.

DAY 11 TURPAN/ DUNHUANG (B/L/D)
Today's tour includes visits to the ruined city of Gaochang and the underground tombs of Astana, the legendary Flaming mountains and Bezekli caves with walls adorned with Buddhist frescoes. You will also see the Emin Minaret, one of the finest buildings on the Silk Road. In the evening, board the overnight soft sleeper train to Dunhuang.

DAY 12 DUNHUANG (B/L/D)
Dunhuang was a strategic post on the Silk Road and the frontier town in ancient times. After breakfast and a short rest at your 4* star hotel, a day to visit Mingsha hill and Crescent Moon lake set in an amphitheatre of sand dunes. Opportunity in the evening to sample local snacks & drinks at the outdoor cafes on the main streets.

DAY 13 DUNHUANG/ JIAYUGUAN PASS (B/L/D)
Explore Dunhuang's most famous monument, the Mogao caves, widely known as "Thousand Buddha Caves". An art gallery in the desert, the walls of the caves are lined with Buddhist frescoes and sculpted figures. They are said to be the finest examples of Buddhist art in the world. Mixing Indian and Chinese styles, they are a remarkable record of Silk Road civilization. After lunch, you will travel to Jiyayuguan Pass, the largest and most splendid pass of the Great Wall. Jiayuguan pass was built in the late Ming dynasty, about 600 years ago. It had served as a pass of strategic importance in the ancient "silk road" and an influential centre for cultural exchanges between the East and the West since ancient times. Jiayuguan pass is one of the most representative parts of the Great Wall in the west of China.

DAY 14 JIAYUGUAN PASS/ LANZHOU (B/L/D)
Fly to Lanzhou, a city built on the banks of the Yellow River. A city tour takes us to the White Pagoda Hill with its many pavilions offering views of the Yellow river and the city below. Also a chance to visit the Provincial museum with the world famous Galloping horse and the Five Spring ark. Check-in at hotel.

DAY 15 LANZHOU/ XIAN (B/L/D)
This morning, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Xian, the city known as one of the seven ancient capitals of China. Upon arrival, visit the Big Wild Goose pagoda and the City Wall built in Ming dynasty. Check-in at hotel.

DAY 16 XIAN (B/L/D)
Full day visit to the hundreds of Terracotta warriors, the bronze Chariots and Horses and the 6000 year old Neolithic village remains in Banpo museum. In the evening, enjoy a dumpling banquet followed by a beautiful Tang Dynasty show.

DAY 17 SHANGHAI (B/-/D)
Transfer to airport for flight to Shanghai, the exciting modern city of China. Transfer to your hotel in city centre. Afternoon visit to the famous Shanghai museum. Enjoy an unbeleivable Acrobatic performance in the evening. Overnight at the Bund 4* hotel.

DAY 18 SHANGHAI (B/L/D)
Today's tour brings you to the magnificent Yu Garden, the Bund area, the former French Concession quarter and Nanjing road, known as the No.1 shopping paradise in China. You will also get the chance to see the newly developed Pudong area and comprehend the great achievements after China started the Reform & Opening up policy in 1980's.

DAY 19 SHANGHAI (B/-/-)
Day at leisure for personal exploration of Shanghai.

DAY 20 DEPARTURE (B/-/-)
At leisure or shopping. Transfer to airport by bullet train for flight home.
