Day 3 : Guangzhou (B/L/-)
Full day guided tour visiting Shamian Island, The Tomb of the Southern Yue King and Orchid Garden. Shamian Island is a sandbank island in the Liwan District of Guangzhou city. The territory was divided into two concessions given to France and the United Kingdom by the Qing Dynasty government in the 19th century.
The Tomb of the Southern Yue King – built along the steep slope of Xianggang hill, is centered on the underground tomb of Zhao Mei, known as the Nanyue King. Zhao Mei was the second ruler of the short-lived southern Yue Kingdom (c. 2nd century BC) and was the grandson of the general Zhao Tuo from the Qin Dynasty who temporarily unified the region. The tomb caused great excitement when it was found in 1983. Built with about 750 large stone slabs, its complex design imitates the design of Zhao Mei's palace, allowing for several smaller chambers and two main halls. At more than 2,000 years old, it is the oldest mastaba (flat-topped tomb) in the entire Lingnan area, which historically included Guangdong and parts of nearby provinces.

Orchid Garden – The Guangzhou Orchid Garden is located opposite Yuexiu Park and provides an oasis of calm in the middle of a busy Chinese city. The orchid garden has three greenhouses and houses over 2000 varieties of orchids. A stroll through the path past variously coloured flowers, teahouses and greenhouses with orchids makes for a heavenly experience.

The Kaiping Diaolou mainly served the purposes of defence and dwelling.

Liyuan Garden, or Li Garden, is situated at Genghua Village Tangkou Town, Kaiping District of Guangdong Province. It is a private garden built for about 10 years by Mr. Xie Weili, a local overseas Chinese in United States in 1920. Chikan is ancient town established during the Qing Dynasty under the governance of Emperor Shunzhi. With 350 years of history Chikan evolved from a country market place into the business competition between the Guan and Situ families. Memorial family libraries were built by each family and both libraries became landmarks of Chikan.

The first Kaiyuan Temple was built in 738 AD in the 26th year of the reign of Emperor Xuanzong. So the site is about 1,200 years old. The complex has been redesigned or reconstructed ten times since then. The present building that is made of wood and stone is about 200 years old. It looks similar to the Todai-ji Buddhist Temple in Nara, Japan. The present temple building is made of wood and stone. The framework has tenons that lock into each other and brackets that help to support the weight of the building. The top of the temple is decorated with glazed tile. The building looks run-down. The temple is important for Buddhist scholarship in China because a complete set of Buddhist scriptures is housed there. After a thousand years of wars and natural calamities like typhoons, the Kaiyuan Temple still has ancient Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty architectural styles, and artifacts from dynasties as far back as the Tang Dynasty are housed there.

The West Lake is a like a shining pearl inlaid on the vast land of China, reputed for beautiful scenery, a multitude of historical sites, brilliant cultural relics, and a profusion of native products. Legend has it that the West Lake was a heavenly jewel fallen to earth. Pragmatists insist that it is a mere lagoon on Hangzhou's western fringe. In any case, West Lake has inspired painters for centuries.

The Cheng Huang Pavilion stands on the peak of Wu Mountain. Qianlong, a Qing Dynasty emperor was there to enjoy scenery and it can compare with Huanghe Pavilion, Yueyang Pavilion and Tengwangge pavilion. The fours are granted as Four Pavilions in Jiangnan.

It's the most noticeable building in the Hangzhou skyline. At 41.7 m, this seven story structure stands even higher than Baochu and Leifeng pagodas. Wuzhen water town
In the south of the Yangtze River Delta, there are many ancient water towns like Wuzhen. They are common in possessing ancient bridges, streets, lanes and delicate residences. However, Wuzhen seems to contain richer historical and cultural flavours, maybe because it boasts the most venerated history and most fertile cultures. Wuzhen, a newly opened site to tourists, is an old water town around 200 km from Shanghai. It is regarded as one of the most beautiful water towns in China. The flat houses, mainly with gray bricks were built along the river over hundreds of years by successive generations. You will have a chance to take a traditional wooden boat rowing zigzag through canals, under the small bridges one after another to find the local people playing cards and tasting tea by the side of the water. It is a great place for wandering around to find the ancient docks, waterside pavilions and corridors stretching for miles, presenting a typical, harmonious atmosphere of water towns in the South of China.
